Hugh Haron circa 1835...where to start?

Hi There,

I am not sure I can high jack such and old post. I am a descendent of Patrick Harran born 1856 in Killycreen, Cleenish Fermanagh. His father on his birth certificate was a Hugh Harran. The witness to the baptism was an Owen Harran. I have noted that the names Hugh, Owen and Patrick repeat every generation.
I would be interested to contact anyone that may still be researching the Harrans.

Civil registration of births in Ireland started in 1864, so you must have a baptism record for Patrick.

I have been searching the parishes for the baptisms, and struggling to read the records.

I have fond a PDF of the history of Fermanagh that on Pages 40 & 41 refers to the following:

 The early Haran family of County Fermanagh
During the early Macquire period one sixth of Fermanagh was Church property. To manage this property the church founders selected a family to act as tenants. The head of this family was called a herenach  or termoner. The herenach was responsible for farming the land and caring for the church, for which he was liable for two thirds of the upkeep, as well as the collection of tithes. The position of herenach was hereditary and as such, the same church was cared for by the same family through the ages. The Haran family was responsible for the upkeep of the Church at MacEntagart (Ballymacatagart)
The Haran family name derives from the ancient Irish name, Ó hAráin; Haran and was also spelled Haren, Harron, Harran, over the years. 
The herenach was referred to as Mac an tSagairt, Ó hAráin (MacEntegart, Harren).
In 1796 James and Patrick Haran were freeholders of land at Cornakill, Cleenish Parish, Enniskillen, and Laurence Haran farmed at Derryvully (Derryvullen, Derryvullan). Later records reveal that Laurence also farmed on Cornaleck townland, Kinawley Parish, Enniskillen, east of Belcoo.

A few questions, I am trying to confirm to which Parish Church this would belong? Would it be this one?

I have a Direct Haren/Harhen Line from Co Clare To Australia  Have Done Dna Studies   Also im on a Very Active Research Group of Harens etc on Facebook   From all over the Worrld   So interested in your Fermanagh Ones too

has three images for Hugh HARON, arrived 1842 "Ann Milne", Sydney

He is a sponsored immigrant, sponsor named as Mr CADDAN, New Town.

This CADDEN family is in Sydney at 1842 when Hugh HARON arrives.

Use the 1839 marriage to find a public tree on ancestry, with birthplace Fermanagh for James CADDEN...and Ireland for Elizabeth DONAGHY.

Hugh has no particular job skill eg blacksmith, cabinetmaker, miller. Hugh is a labourer, so you might suspect that he is sponsored by family.....related to either James CADDEN or wife Elizabeth DONAGHY.

Can you please list all the information on the marriage certificate and death certificate for Hugh HARON.

Does this help determine if Hugh was related to his sponsor James Cadden, or his wife Elizabeth Donaghy??

Where is Hugh HARON buried?

You need to find all possible clues in NSW about the HARON family...to hope to locate them in Fermanagh.

Elizabeth HARON is alive at 1869 when the estate of husband Hugh is settled.

Elizabeth was alive at 1866 when her husband died. Son William Bede HARON is the informant but you might suppose that Elizabeth is the source of the information on her husband's death record. Elizabeth does not know the name of her husband's mother.....does not sound promising.

Son William Bede HARON has a large family. Seventh son is named Hugh, after paternal grandfather. No son is named Owen, or Terry / Terence.

The marriage record, 1844...is it a transcription (typed) or an image of a handwritten document?

The death record, 1866......is it a transcription (typed) or an image of a handwritten document?

You need to account for Elizabeth HARON, alive at 1869.....Thomas HARON alive at 1866...and birth / death of unnamed son dead at 1866. What do you know about these people?

Are you descended from William Bede HARON?. How does he name his parents on his marriage certificate?.  Who are the witnesses?

Ok- here is what I have in answer to your questions:

Hugh is buried in North Sydney Burial Ground according to his death certificate (its a copy not transcript).

He died intestate, and Elizabeth had to apply for his probate- this ocurred in 1869. Notices were published, and no-one else came forward in the required 14 days. Elizabeth made her mark on all court documents (no signature) and stated she would pay any of Hugh's debts from the estate, and that she did not believe the estate to be worth more than 120 pounds. She requested on behalf of herself and 2 sons living. Elijah Little (?) a Baker, and James White a saddler- both of the north shore of sydney, stand surety of Elizabeth's character and that she will make a true and honest account and inventory of Hugh's property.

The marriage of Hugh and Elizabeth I have both image and transcript.

Their children were:
William Bede who married Frances Elizabeth Keller in 1871 aged 26 years. A Drayman. No parents listed for either bride or groom. Witnesses are John Deane and Eliza Mary Ann Deane. (Image)
His death certificate (image) in 1926 list his parents as Hugh Haron- stonemason, and Elizabeth McDonald

Thomas Haron who did not marry. He went missing from North Sydney sometime in 1900, and his presumed remains were found in French's Forest in 1901, about 18 months after he went missing.
I don't know anything more about Thomas.

I do not know who the infant son deceased in 1866 was.

Bede appears to be a strong family name- it is the middle name of William, son on Hugh.
It is the middle name of several of William's son's (William Bede, Joseph Bede and David Bede), and is in turn passed on in their children.

I have not found a death for Elizabeth Haron, and have no record of her after 1869.

The Frank and George you mention are son's of William Bede (son of Hugh).
