Hello Listers.
In 1806 John WHITE died in Peterborough, Northamptonshire. Shortly afterwards, the Overseers of Peterborough began proceedings to have his wife, Sarah, removed to St Matthew's, Friday Street or St. Peter Cheap, Friday Street, both in the City of London.
It would seem the removal occurred in 1809 when Sarah was pregnant with Walter WHITE who was born on 21 September 1809 (date from M.I.) According to some censuses he was born in "London" while others state "Shoreditch".
I have no idea why Sarah and her three sons were removed to London (her husband, John, had been working in Peterborough as the Keeper of the House of Correction for 9 years prior to his death (so surely had gained a settlement there?) and previously he had been a soldier in the 25th Regiment (pensioned out in 1797 on losing a leg).
If anyone can help by a baptism I would be very grateful.
Best wishes,
Mark
