anyway 1861 channel Islands...no penfolds, pinfolds, pinfords , penfull or other variations

No Amos Thompson, or anyone from the 1841 list on the previous page . There are other Thompsons born in England tho.

There is an Arthur Penfound , born 1798 , wife Elizabeth.. he is a lodging .... a something keeper

thanks for loking Debs, nobody seems to be able to find them i wonder where they were, just athought does anyone know what pages were missing if any from the census in each area they were last seen?

has anybody found them in the school attendance records?

apparently from 1862 statutory admissio and discharge records begna to be kept byt he head teachers of schools receiving government funding. you will discover that many of these only commence in the 14880's when education became compulsory nationwide for children between the ages of 5 & 10 though local districts could make it so from 1870. the registers may still be stored in the school or may have been transferred to teh county record office, these generally include
every new pupils name
his/her date of birth
the fathers name, place of residence and occ.
the childs date of admission and track his/her progress throug each stage from infant class to senior or until date of departure giving the reason for leaving adn the place removed to if changing schools.
