where did you get the bapt. for John from Matilda, we couldn't find it! 
do you have the other childrens bapt. and also the mother Charlottes maiden name? (fingers crossed )

theres quite a big gap in between the children isn't there with John in 1809 Robert in 1816 & Maria in 1831, do you think there maybe more hiding somewhere?

           the bap for john was sent to me by a snail mail contact who is also looking in to the family dont have any baps for the others that i can find at the moment  but i will have a look.
    i have a possible for john and Charlotte in 1861 census  RG9; Piece: 683; Folio: 48; Page: 44; millbrook hampshire
 John age 78 brushmaker kingston dorset
 Charlotte 79 wife  Lancaster

That looks great to me , especially as they are in Hampshire. It's a pity there are no family with or living near them. You would think that they would want to be with the whole family. Where was everyone in 1861?

The youngest s/o John Penfold and Harriet James , was Edward ... he was born c 1853 in Cornwall... so they were all in that area near to 1861. Thomas s/o John and Harriet, married Sophia Orchard in 1866 in Devon.

Just wish they would be consistent about where they were born LOL ... Charlotte , 91, now born Exeter, Devon. Great find though ...especially as she is with Daughter, Maria Thompson nee Penfold and grandson ... woohoo for you , Matilda
