Thank you Victoria for your posting.  My ancestors were in Lambeth Walk in 1874 but there's some confusion because they changed the numbering. I think this was due to the Railway arriving.  The bakers was originally at No. 124 and I thought they had moved but apparantly according to a website I found No. 124 was changed to No.71.  The bakers was actually nextdoor to The Angel Pub.  I visited the Walk a couple of years back and fortunately the terrace that contained the bakers and The Angel is still standing and is the only part of the walk with a preservation order on it. Have you visited?  I have some digital photos which also show The Angel now a Hostel - if you would like me to send you a copy?

Yes I knew about the number changes from a lambeth website, cant remember how though.  Thats why I got a map,  on the back of themap it has some of the roads and number and the residents,   124 next to the Angel pub was a bakers run by a Thomas Lees.  my g g grandfather worked in the Angel pub around 1861 , bit before yours were there.
No I havent had the chance to visit as yet I live in the midlands. Have seen a photo of the hostel now but not found a photo of how it was before. Nice to see a preservation order on it. I would like to see any photos you have if thats possible.
Thanks

Ros Are you still looking for the photo because I have one, showing my father's grandfather at the door of the shop (yes, 71). No date but the family story is that he looked very like Edward VII and certainly didn't discourage the similarity, travelling on the continent and trading on the Prince Regent's use of anonymity. The original photo is very bleached and with damage but my bro-in-law has done a super job with Photoshop yesterday.
We also have a family bible with deaths and births recorded, and a collection of photos, mostly unnamed or dated of the family. My grandmother was Dorothy Henrietta Loeber.

Is your ancestor Henry Conrad Loeber b. 3rd May 1850 son of William Henry Loeber? If so he is connected to our Loeber family line which we discovered had a long time family tradition as bakers going right back to Adam Loeber b. abt 1771 Germany - a Sugar Baker who owned a premises on Charles Street which we think might now be called Sceptre Road and is in Hackney. William Henry was son of our 4 x grt Grandfather Conrad Loeber (also a baker) who was son of Adam Loeber. Hope this is of interest.
