So sorry, I'm getting Sheila and Diane mixed up, with such similar user names - Diddydi and Dizzyfish!
Can you blame me, plus I'm rather excited about these two burials turning up...?

Hello Keith,
Unfortunately I know very little of that part of Nottinghamshire, but I also wondered the same thing about George Tan Yard, many pubs and Inns had yards to the rear where people lived and worked hopefully someone on the Nott’s board might have some idea where it was.

I am fascinated by the workhouse and I wish I knew more about them, as you say circumstances change and once able people ended up there, perhaps they couldn’t be looked after by their own families?

I am pleased the burials were helpful.

Best Wishes

Sheila.

Hello Keith,

It has been niggling me regarding the address for William Fells, I have looked at the 1871 census with Jane Fells living in Clarborough in George Inn Yard – RG10/3452/26, I now realise that the address is more likely to be George Inn Yard rather than what looked to me like Tan Yard on the burial register so should be “Inn” not Tan.

Best Wishes

Sheila.

Sheila,
Thanks for poring over that location - I'll now see what I can find on a George Inn in Clarborough in the middle to late 19C.  I love stumbling over new locations from the past, then trying to discover as much as one can about the place...
