Thanks again Scribbles,

The Mountain connection is new to me so any info on them is most welcome.

Having concentrated on my Firth lineage I successfully managed to trace back to my 2X Gr. grandfather Henry Firth b. circa 1818 Mirfield, son of Major Firth and Hannah Clegg married 1815.  I believe Henry had siblings: Elizabeth 1816, Harriet 1820, Samuel 1822, Joesph 1824 and Mary 1827.

Unfortunately other than knowing Major's parents are James Firth and Elizabeth? I cannot help with the info request.

I do appreciate your help,

J4FIRTH

Where did your Major marry Hannah Clegg? I've just checked Thornhill and there's no marriage listed there for them.

Anything else I can help with  ...... Thornhill or Flockton?

Major Firth married Hannah Clegg in Mirfield Parish Church, October 1815 I believe.

I would try Thornhill first but truthfully am unsure.

Hi John,

Oh that's a shame  ....... I don't have any resources for Mirfield at all. It looks as though I can't help you any further with your Firth's and I don't even know if anybody sells any booklets or anything for this Parish.

I'm glad I asked as I was about to look for your James baptism in Flockton and Thornhill, seeing as he wasn't born in Emley as you thought.

Anyway, good luck  .... I hope you can track him down sometime in the future. I'll put all my efforts into the MOUNTAIN's now, seeing as you do connect to them via James' wife, Elizabeth and the marriage in 1786!

Thank you so much for your help.  I will have to chase up James Firth in Thornhill somehow but for now I'll look forward to hearing about my Mountain connections some time in the future.

Many thanks.

John

Thanks so much for all that wonderful info, Scrabble. It's confirmed just about all the IGI submitted stuff and given me a few siblings as well, so that's a relief!

The IGI (proper transcription) has Josephus Inglish s/o Georgei baptised in Emley on 9 Feb 1707 - is that one not there - perhaps under 'I' instead of 'E' (don't you just love these parish clerks and their spelling variations!?).

I see what you mean about Beatrice Mountain, wife of Major, being buried in 1766 - he must have remarried between 1766 and 1768, so it looks as though I've still got a search on for the mother of Mary Mountain, d/o Major, who was baptised in 1772!  ::)

John, I've only got one Mirfield baptism booklet - 1796-1812, too early for your Firth children and too late for James Firth's baptism, but there are about a dozen Firth baptisms at that time - so, perhaps looking good?

Thanks again, Scrabble. That's been a great help.

Jill

Hi John,

The IGI has the marriage of Major Firth and Hannah Clegg 12th October 1815 at Mirfield.

As James Firth married in 1786, the nearest likely one for a baptism is :

26th Dec 1763 father Samuel in Dewsbury which is very close to Thornhill

There is also a marriage of Samuel Firth to Dorothy Tolson in Dewsbury 1752.

I suppose they could be possibles.

Huddersfield and District Family History society have transcribed records for Mirfield and Dewsbury.
