McEwen
« on: Thursday 01 November 07 19:31 GMT (UK) »
Hello, I'm new to this wonder if anyone can help? I've lost my father -in - law sister Minona McEwen she was born in South America. She then moved to Spain. I don't know if she is still there.  Her mother is also missing! She was born in Bromley, Kent Sept 1894.  I believe she died in Spain about 1985, I can't find any trace of her marriage either, she "married" Clement McEwen,  their oldest child was born Mar 1873 ,Atholl, in Camberwell. Clement worked on the Maderia Mamose Railway Company in South America.

Dates are a bit mixed up!

Minona McEwan was born about??? South America? --> Spain, died 1985?
Her mother was born Bromley, Kent - 1894? Or is this when Minona was born? (Her name?)
Child Atholl born in 1873 - to Clement McEwan and who?

http://www.familyrelatives.com/ - you need to look, probably, at the overseas indexes of births, marriages, and deaths.

http://www.ihgs.ac.uk/competition/john_pierce.php - there is a mention here of a possible marriage, 1914 in Asunción, Clement McEwan and Doris Pierce.

http://www.findmypast.com/passengerListPersonSearchStart.action - one hit here for Minona McEwen, travelling in 1936, there's also a hit for Clement in 1924, and Doris McEwen appears a couple of times.

Thanks Jorose,
I think my brain (hah) was going faster than my fingers.
Minona was born after 1916 child of Clement and Doris.
Doris McEwen (nee Pierce-hope) was born in Bromley, Kent 1894.  It is Doris who died in Spain after 1985 but before 1993.
I don't know if Minona is alive or not as my father-in-law died in 1993. All contact has been lost with the Spanish line.

Hello Margarita, Sorry to hear of the loss of your mother. I didn't expect to ever get a reply. I believe Minona was 13 years younger than Ewen. I recently discovered she was born in Hackney, London not South America. Do you still live in Spain? Did you know Doris well. I found some record that suggests Doris died in Malaga in 1987 do you know if that is true?
Ewen had 2 sons and a daughter. I am married to the second son.

Hello, I'm happy to know about my cousin, although I've never met him. My mum was born in London, in 1929, and my grandmother, Doris, died in 1985 in Málaga. I met my uncle Ewen when he visited us many years ago and at the funeral of my grandmother. I live in Spain, in León, some of my siblings live in Sweden and others in Spain (Gerona, Sevilla and Nerja). If you want to know more about my mum, you can ask for my help. And yes, I knew Doris well, but when she died I was 16 years old.
Best wishes.

Hi
I don't know if anyone can still help but ultimately we're trying to trace relatives of Ronald Pierce who was the brother of Doris Pierce, who married Clement McEwen. I'm aware there are descendants of Mary Winifred (Molly) Pierce, Doris and Ronald's sister and direct descendants of Doris but I don't know if there is anyone still alive who may have had any contact with Ronald or have been more aware of him.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Welcome to Rootschat, King's School Gloucester (and hello again to my cousins on this thread)

I am a great-granddaughter of Mary Winifred (Molly) Pierce.  I have an extremely detailed family tree of the Pierces and related families, and am in touch with extended family members in the UK, Europe and the US.  Unfortunately as Ronald died in 1916 there is nobody living who knew him in person, but I have inherited photographs from the family's time in South America and my late grandmother Dorothy nee Middleton, Molly's elder daughter, passed down a rich oral history of the family.  Very happy to liaise in any way.
