My mother was born in 1924 and grew up in Brampton.  In some notes she left, she says she went to an infant school at five then the senior school 'up the hill' at eleven.  The Headmistress there was Miss Jane Thompson.

Kerrie,
sorry forgot about the churchyard angle in the muddle with the camera.
Is the mason name you are looking for again?  I haven't given up on your original question but I'm an incomer to the town/village and need to pick my way delicately. :P

Kerrie,
finally got round to the graveyard- it's not very user friendly - but I suppose the main clients don't complain too much.
Most of the gravestones seem to be made from the local red sandstone so have rotted pretty badly (or been vandalised).  However there was 1 mason headstone readable as follows"In memory of Jane, wife of Thomas Mason of Brampton who died May the 3rd 1795 aged 76"
I also called at the library to see if they had any old documents but she says all local history is at Carlisle.
