The address i'm interested in is 62 Front Street, Brampton.

Hi Kerrie

Have you tried Trade Directories, electoral registers, telephone directories?

If I'm correct this is quite an old address, where there were many tradesmen, and some businesses I've looked at did have telephones by then,  Most people had a vote by then.

Good luck and best wishes.

Hi, thanks, no I haven't tried those. You don't happen to know where I would be able to access them do you?

Thanks again

Hi Kerrie

Sorry I was thinking you'd get them off Historical Directories, but I'd forgotten they don't go that late in many areas.  I've just checked and Brampton is one of them.

I've put the link below anyway incase any reader wants to try it..

If no one else does it before I go in, I'll have a look at the records/ archives.

It might be a few days though as My bad leg and our parking  problems/ roadworks don't get on very well.

Electoral registers are at the archives, (though those for Carlisle it self are in the Local Studies Library inthe library .  This is in the Lanes shopping Centre.)

There are a few old telephone directories in there too, and also some trade directories with a few in the archives at Carlisle Castle.

Best wishes

Hi again Kerrie - Emms again!

Just a thought----- some of these items are alphabetic for name only.  Are there particular names you're expecting to see there?

Best wishes.

Hi, Thanks Bob and Emms, the names i'm looking for are George and Julia Mason,,,or any Masons that might be nearby.

My Grandad was born in Lambley,Haltwhistle in 1921 and I'd always thought that his parents would have died there, until I got his marriage certificate, I'm hoping that my Grandad was still living with his parents before he enlisted....I don't think he ever went back after marrying my Nan, my Dad doesn't remember his Grandparents or my Grandad talking about them.

I would love to visit Brampton and see for myself where my Grandad came from but I'm miles away in Runcorn,Cheshire...oh well, maybe one day.

I'll be greatful for any info at all.

Thanks again

Kerrie,
I don't how to tell you this but number 62 no longer exists! Number 58 is the last in the row of teraced houses but there is space where 60 and 62 could have been - right opposite the parisah church and what lokks like the church hall but is now an antiques centre.
If I get a minute I' check some old maps to see if main st was built after 1945.

I've tried a couple of old maps and the road layout seems much the same but Geoff is so much better at these things than me, he may be able to see if there were extra houses at the western end of main st. One of the maps says the building I thought was the church hall may well have been the vicarage.
As an afterthought, would you like a photo of where your house should have been?
