Hi Deb- i have looked thru all variation of penfolds for thomas and sophia but i can't find them but that earlier post looks good. In 1891 there were up to 918 families of Penfolds in Sussex and London. Upto  459 families in Kent. Upto 153 families in most other counties , including wales.
This is not really helpful but i can't find much else.
Will start again tomorrow- had busy day.

BTW ... William and Bessie did not go traipsing up to Wales  ;D ... a few of their son's did though .... can you imagine walking to Wales from Cornwall...maybe it's family 'stories'   :-\ :-X

deb

Deb....folks in Oz walked from one state to another .....that's like walking almost the length of England and Scotland.....so walking from Wales to Cornwall would not be so outrageous.

Can't imagine any of us doing it though.  ;D  ;D  ;D
