My Thomas and Sophia are not there in 1871 or 1881  :'( :'(

I checked in Wales a while back ... they used to travel back and forth , or so I was told by my mum ... My Uncle Nelson (s/o William Penfold and Bessie Palmer) used to walk to Wales for the 'cattle drives'.... He was also a great boxer in his day and used to attend all the fairs .... ;D

Deb,

If Wm. and Bessie walked to Wales you might consider this one:
FreeBMD - William b. (Q4,1874, Clifton,6a,66)
Clifton is now part of Bristol... have you checked Gloucester and Somerset for Tom and Sophia?

Genie

I am searching without using areas/counties at all ....Cannot see them in 1871/81.

I was just searching for John and Harriet in 1851...cannot see them either.
here they are in 1861
Minehead
John Penford Head 52 Travelling Hawker b. Warminster
Harriett Penford Wife 49 Berkshire Kingclere
Thomas Penford Son 20 b. Dorset Poole = Soffia Orchard
Christopher Penford Son 18 b. Somerset Taunton
Elizabeth Penford 16 Daughter b. Dorset Gladford (sic)
Alfred Penford 13 son b. Somerset Chalton
Henry Penford 10 son b. Somerset Bridgewater
Edward Penford 8 son b. Cornwall Dobbwalls

RG9/1601 Folio 40 Page 30

BTW ... William and Bessie did not go traipsing up to Wales  ;D ... a few of their son's did though .... can you imagine walking to Wales from Cornwall...maybe it's family 'stories'   :-\ :-X

 :)

Genie ...not sure who they are ...
William Penfold married Bessie Palmer in 1898.

Tom married Sophia/Soffia ....

The boys are the right age , but I doubt mine would have been scholars...I will definitely take a look ...

Tom and sophia also had Defiance,Christona, Edward and Christopher...they were all born in 1870's so they should be with her as well... :-\

Hmmm :-\ I see what you mean, I get easily confused.

Never mind eh!  ;D

P.S. Deb, when they put scholar down it just meant they were school age. Don't read to much into the term scholar  :D
