1849 Indian Marriage
« on: Monday 29 October 07 12:25 GMT (UK) »
I am after some help with attaining the marriage certificate of my 2nd Great Grandparents. Thomas Harrison married Anne Collins on 13 August 1849 in Dinapore, Bengal, India. I am based in Tasmania & a friend of mine got the reference (N/1/76, folio, 79) for this marriage at the UK national archives & I was wondering how I get a copy of this, while I'm stuck here in Tassie?

Why not try contacting the National Archives yourself, requesting a copy of the marriage.

This shows an email address for contact.

Mike

The marriage reference you have is from the India Office Collection at the British Library, not The National Archives.

You can use this link to go to their Family History page

www.bl.uk/collections/oiocfamilyhistory/family.html

They can supply a copy of the entry for you, but it is not cheap. However, these records are on film, so you may be able to get them through an LDS Family History Centre if there is one near you.

Good luck

Audrey

Hi Audrey,

Thanks for that info but TNA emailed me back after I quoted the reference No & I paid 18 pounds for the marriage certificate which was typed out unfortunately, rather than a copy of the original...still it's better than none at all.

Re:  Ann Collins who married Thomas Harrison

I am wondering if these are the same people as my husbands Great Grandparents
Ann 1835 - 1881  Thomas 1827,  they had Lillian Maud Harrison who married Abraham Thomas George White,  Tasmania.
I dont have any other information on Ann and Thomas, and would love to know if they are the same.   Thanks
