Miss SYMONS - Teacher of Music
« on: Thursday 25 October 07 08:37 BST (UK) »
Hello All

Does anyone lay claim to Miss Symons, Teacher of Music ( and I presume her daughter)?  The photo is from a postcard sent to my Grandmother in Ottery St Mary probably late in the 19the century.

I am happy to supply a decent (email) copy copy of the card to anyone interested.

Regards to all .....

Hello TheWombat,
Miss Symons and her daughter ??? That means that Miss Symons married name will have
to be established on the assumption that Mrs Whatever hername is used her maiden
name for teaching purposes. Maybe the postcard shows Miss Symons and an assistant
or possibly one of her pupils.

Hi Christopher

Not necessarily.  The object of the post was, hopefully, to provide a possible SYMONS researcher with a copy of an ancestor's photograph.

Maybe the postcard shows Miss Symons and an assistant or possibly one of her pupils.

You may be perfectly correct, but to help clear up any confusion I'm posting the reverse of the card.

Wombat

I have just noticed this post today & am interestaed in the names you mention.

My Grandmother was Hilda Symonds (variations on the family name have been Symon/Symonds/Symons etc. most of my recent Symonds ancestors hail from Ottery St Mary.

She was descended from a Gosling. Hilda's GGrandmother was Jane(Jenny Bartlett) Gosling.

I would love to know if you can connect to this in any way.

Regards
Joanna

Hello Joanna

Nice to hear from you. It would be nice if I could find a home for Miss SYMONS - Music Teacher.

My immediate GOSLING side, since about 1800, spent most of their time in Otterton, (where some of the male members were village blacksmiths) and only a couple seemed to have moved to Ottery St Mary about 100 years later.

It's interesting that you mention BARTLETT, as my 4 x great-grandmother, Mary BARTLETT married Robert GOSLING, in Salcombe Regis, in 1775.

What do you think? Any connection?

Look forward to hearing from you.

Regards
Wombat

It would be great if you sent me your family tree.

I too am descended from Mary Bartlett & Robert Gosling.

Hi Joanna

Did I ever get back to you on this?  Or did I have a 'senior' moment?

Hi Wombat,

We never did finish this conversation/topic.

I would love to see your family tree to see how we are related as I'm sure we are in some weird & wonderful way.

Thank you for bringing this back to my attention.

Joanna

Hello again Joanna.

This my first time on the board for several years.

I have to confess that I remain unsure whether we ever concluded our discussion?

Regards
Wombat.
