Was your ancestor some sort of gamekeeper?  I mean did it specify on the census?

Have just read your message in reply to mine re Hare Warren.  Thank you.   My ancestor is listed as living at Hare Warren Wilton Wilts, so I think the Wilton one is correct.  He was a gamekeeper, so your wood also rings true.  Wonder who owned the wood, who he was working for?  Will try the google as you suggested.

Hi LC,

I too have a relative listed as living in The Hare Warren in 1901. She was the neice of a gamekeeper!! So I'm guessing we have a confirmed family link.

I Googled The Hare Warren and came across this thread.

Hi,
The info about Hare warren you have been given is correct.
I used to live very close by as a child and used to play in Hare Warren and there is a beautiful cottage in the woods called keepers cottage.The land is owned by Lord Pembroke . The interesting thing is that one of my mothers friends who lived near us when I was little, father was a gamekeeper who live in the house.If you haven't been there I suggest you do it is idylic.

I have a connection with Hare Warren, c.1833 and onwards my family lived there and two of them are buried at Netherhampton, my mother can remember living there as a child.
