Search page in web page
« on: Sunday 26 December 04 06:48 GMT (UK) »
I have tried to upload an .asp page to my family site, but FTP won't accept it, says it's a bad file extension. How can I fix it please? Regards Garry

Is it the server rejecting the file or is it your FTP program rejecting it ?

If it is the server this may be a security precaution given that asp are server active pages and can cause problems .... you may have to resort to a javascript search

.asp pages require a Windows server.   I suspect your ISP/host is on unix so you need to use non .asp,  if you have simple pages try changing the extension to .html or move to a host which supports .asp  (normally a pay for service)

:-[  Should have spotted that one .... I guess I'm just used to windows servers.

Asp.Net is MS Specific and while some servers will allow you to upload the files they will remain inactive. Because of this some well run servers will be set up to reject incompatible system file such as has happened here.

I'm not sure if you are referring to the RootsChat Free Webspace or not, but if you are you can achieve active pages by using PHP instead ".php".

The RootsChat Free webspace uses Linux servers (along with over 80% of all webservers - including Google) that allows dynamic websites without the problems associated with Microsoft Servers.

Tee hee.. yes - computers are supposed to sulk now and again  :-

Linux Servers just go slow like a Blackpool donkey usually when they go wrong, but the Microsoft ones tend to act more like an ostrich!

Mind you, donkeys can be hard work at times!

(I've always thought that "asp" sounds like a thorn of some kind !)

having just watched Shrek 2, I have to agree, but at least Unix/Linux servers tend to shut up rather than keeling over.
