Edwin Frank Catchpole appears to have married Alice Sarah Gooding in Ipswich, Sep 1908 4a 1917.  Alice's page number has been wrongly transcribed as 1017, rather than 1917, on FreeBMD, so they don't at the moment come up together.  So the "Alice Catchpole" may be Edwin's wife in her married name, and Lilian Irene Catchpole their daughter.

This may or may not be Alice's birth (it's the only Ipswich birth of an Alice Sarah Gooding):

Alice Sarah Gooding Mar 1888 Ipswich 4a 846

which would at least be consistent with a December 11 birthdate - many December births would not have been registered until after the New Year, thus falling into the Jan-Mar registration period.

This Alice Sarah Gooding appears to have been a sister of Lilian Mabel Gooding (see my previous post about that family  - parents George William Gooding and Eva Lina nee Garrod).

In 1901 Alice S. (13) was with her family in Ipswich; as we have seen, Lilian was away in service, but Alice remained with parents George W. and "Evelyn", as well as sisters Elizabeth (11), Eva M (9) and Beatrice E. (5): RG13/1781  folio 80 p13

Births for the youngest two:

Eva Maud Gooding: Dec 1891 Ipswich 4a 851 (possibly the Maude Gooding in the book?)

Beatrice Ethel Gooding Sep 1895 Ipswich 4a 899 (possibly the Beatrice?)

No problem :)

Alfred, Wilfrid and Flossie still remain unaccounted for  (Wilfrid particularly baffling as there's no apparent sign in English records despite an exact birthdate - perhaps a branch of the family emigrated?)

On a separate point, I see that you (like me) have Markhams in Suffolk.  Any chance any of yours were in or near the Framlingham area?

Two possibilities for the marriage of Alfred and Sarah
Alfred Catchpole
both in Oct/Nov/Dec 1866
in Ipswich

ref 4a 755 - also on page Sarah Southgate

and ref 4a 766 - also on page Sarah Lord.

(Of course, neither of these may have married the Sarah's at all)

Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

Thanks Liz; I think I had seen this family before, but their address - Laurel Villa - sounded quite posh so I reckoned they probably weren't mine - none of my lot have ever had posh addresses!  :)

Anna, I don't know much about the Markham side; I have a Thomas Markham m. Elizabeth Boldero; their son Samuel (born Rendlesham 1820) married Mary Ann Steward (Bramford 1831). Their daughter Alice Mary (b Eyke c1859/60) married Alonzo Elliott of Sproughton, which is my connection.
Thomas and Elizabeth's other children were Sarah, Thomas, Charles and Eliza; and Samuel and Mary's other children (that I know of ) were John and Bertha.

Alfred is a carpenter - so  a tradesman, not that posh!!
Laurel Villa could have been quite an ordinary house. Often rows of old terraced houses that are still around today have names like 'Laurel villa' over the door, even though they have been numbered and the name is never used.
