Hi Mary

I may have found your Mary but in case I haven't you may wish to follow my thoughts and look yourself as I am not familiar with the Worcester villages:

First of all Benjamin and Mary's marriage took place in Dec 1853 Kings Norton 6c 712 (you could of course order the certificate) :-\  wife could be either Mary Lane or Walker.

In 1861 census Mary Hodgetts as she was as Benjamin's wife was born 1820.

In 1851 (before marrying Benjamin) there were no Mary Lanes born 1820 living in Kings Norton.

However, in 1851 there was a Mary Walker born 1820 in Kings Norton married to Joseph Walker. Source: HO107 2048 257 3
Could this be Mary's first husband who may have died and she remarried  :-\ :-\ :-\

If not, you could follow my train of thought and consider other villages around Kings Norton to find your Mary in 1851.  ;)

Good luck
Amanda :)

Well done David  8) I didn't get that far.
I wonder if we can locate Joseph and Mary Walker's marriage to find Mary's maiden name ???

Its a long shot with popular names but worth a try. :)

1861 Mary Hodgetts 29 born Yardley,Worcs
1871 ditto                 38 born Solihull, Warwicks
1881 ditto                 47 born Yardley Wood
1891 ditto                 58 born Yardley Wood, Warwickshire

There isn't really any reason to assume that Mary was in Kings Norton in 1851.

Really the only safe way is to get one of the children's birth certificates and find Mary's maiden name.

I found a few details of the family here in case you don't have it already
