James TREBILCOCK where are you?
« on: Sunday 21 October 07 03:43 BST (UK) »
Am endeavoring to trace what happened to James Trebilcock Baptized Perranzabuloe 2/5/1830.  Have located James in 1841 census (Bolingy, Perranzabuloe) and 1851 census (lodger, Blight's Row, Redruth) but are unable to locate after that.
Have traced all marriages 1851-1861 for James' and discarded all but St Austell 7-9/1859 Volume 5c Page 221 where no female for this marriage is listed.
With regards to deaths there are three possibles 4-6/1851 St Columb, 7-9/1851 St Columb, 10-12/1857 Redruth for which I need to resolve.
The possibility of emmigration does exist as James' brother Thomas did ship to Australia 1855.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Greg,

I have checked the St Col parishes I have and looks like I Can account for both of  of the St Col death refs

TREBILCOCK James buried 4 Sep 1851 Colan of St Columb Minor aged 71
TREBILCOCK James buried 1 Jul 1851 St Columb Major aged 19  ;)

I see there are 2 James TREBILCOCK's born 1830 Perranzabuloe. 1861 only 1 a tin Miner mother Jane married to Jane (1851). Redruth man a smith. I don't see him in 1861

Greg,

I suspect the missing female on the marriage entry is

HICKS Alice Ann Sep 1/4 1859 St Austel 5c (FreeBMD couldn't transcribe it)

Take a look  ;)

I don't see a James and Alice in 1861

Thanks for your comments.

My James is son of James Trebilcock Snr and Mary Pascoe baptised Gwennap 1803 and Perranzabuloe 1807&1808 respectively.  Mary died 1845.  James Snr 1851 census entry is Newquay. St Columb Minor and 1861 Wood House Cottage, Turnpike, St Blazey.

Census entries detailed by down-under have been traced other James'.

Marriage detailed for Alice Ann Hicks I agree is most probable for 1859 and I also cannot find either of this couple after this event, or any children.

So far it looks like my James could have (1) died Redruth 10-12/1857 (2) married Alice Ann Hicks 7-9/1859 (3) emmigrated prior to 1861 (4) combination 3 & 4.

Might have to order a couple of certificates unless any other record sources come to light.

Thanks again helpers!

Hi Greg,

I tried to get a feel for Alice after I posted yesterday and found she was born in Fowey (Birth lists as St Austell district) 1839. In 1841 she is with her family in Fowey, 1851 she is a servant in Veryan. Given her age, she probably married one of the younger James Trebilcock's, the trouble is there are quite a few as you know. I tried to follow them yesterday and like you, deemed all in 1861 as not being the correct one. There are a couple of James's married St Col Minor but not the right one. I can spot the couples in the census. Al least the burials cancelled out a couple of possibilities  ;).........Kris

Hi Kris

I eventually obtained a copy of the Entry of Marriage for James Trebilcock St Austell 5c 221 Sept 1859.
It turns out not to be my James.  However for your records the marriage represents:

13/8/1859 at the register office St Austell
James Trebilcock, 45 yrs, Widower. Clay Labourer. St Stephens. Roger Trebilcock, Farm Labourer
Mary Ann Kent, 40 years. Spinster, Works at Clay works, St Dennis, Benjamin Kent, Tin Streamer

Both signed by mark.  Witnesses Mary Ann Ploming? and Eden Jeffery.

Regards

Greg
