Hi Marco

I have several Birds in the Hull area, mainly Easington/Patrington/Scucloates.

BUT ... and it's a big butt!  ;D - there are NO connections with Devon or Brixham as far as I can see.

My Birds are in Patrington all the way back to 1785, with my grandfather moving to Scarborough in the 1930s.

Hello MT...thanks for your reply....My Mother's ancestors came from Brixham, Devon..mostly families connected to the fishing industry going back to the 16th. Cent...but when in the 19 th. Cent. fish stocks were running low (sounds familiar), they moved whole families up to Hull where new fishing grounds were being exploited...the Bird family joined this large migration and mostly settled in the Myton,Sculcoates area.  One Example is John W. Bird (born in Ramsgate) who married Emma Squires from Hull in February 19, 1876.  Also John's sister Phillipa who married Alfred Dean from Hull in 12 Feb. 1869. If you have any ancestors in that area there might be a connection....regards Marco.

The problem is though, Marco, that if your John Bird is born in Ramsgate and marries in Hull in 1876, and Philippa marries in 1876 (I presume that she's a southerner too?) - MY Birds are already established by almost 100 years, ie approx three generations, in Patrington.

Therefore I think it REALLY unlikely that mine and yours are intertwined. I also have all the necessary members of my family neatly accounted for as far as the 1901 census (and beyond for my DIRECT line).

Sorry to be a party-pooper.  :(
