Did you ever get the info you wanted? I have a shortened version of this in my house. I am also from Cullybackey and could look up the library copy for you if this would be of any use to you?

Hi Bessy,

I did eventually get to read a copy at my local library, but there wasn't quite as much information as I'd hoped. My mum was born in Cullybackey, and apart from me, my family all still live in N. Ireland.

The family I'm researching is the Given family. Thomas Given, the Ulster Scots poet was my g g grandfather (he lived in Dunnygarron). I know that his father was James Given, but I cannot get any further back. There is a link to Ayrshire and the story of how Markstown got its name (via Givens and McKees), all of which fascinates me. If any of this is familiar to you I'd be glad to know :)

It's not familiar to me personally, but I have heard of Thomas Given.

A historical society was actually set up in the village last month. While I don't have any info, some of the other members might. Why not check out our facebook page and keep in touch with what the group is up to. It's possible Thomas Given may be something we will look at/research at some point.

Have done, Bessy, Thomas and his brothers were also responsible for the building of the Masonic Hall in the town, so there's plenty of history there :)
