loved looking at the pictures of the Scroggs Bridge brought back great memories of when I lived in Lockerbie and we all walked to the Scroggs to go swimming and the Blue Eel memories of the library with the stuffed salmon but no memories of any books lol

I haven't got James Tweedie and Janet Baird on my tree. I think there are a couple of people who are tracing Tweedies, who use this board. It might be a good idea to start a new thread.

I'm not a great library fan, that's JDG. When we are in Lockerbie she is often in the library having a look though the local history section. Scroggs is lovely, very peaceful, but that main road through to Bankshill seems a fair bit of traffic now.

I have really just started this branch of family today and made incredible progress so far with the help of Ecneps,Latterday Saints&Freecen so yes I will start a new thread,just like to try and collect a little info so I know what I am looking for.

JDG the Scroggs was never peaceful when I was there 1970's always so busy in the summer between people sheep or cattle but fantastic fun.

yes I have checked that site and some of my Richardsons including Phyliss Richardson whom I actually remember when I was little are mention     amazing.This family info has come thick and fast today,I am delighted to have gathered such a lot in a short time.

Greetings
This is my first post.  In attempting to trace my Scottish heritage I have traced my oldest known ancestor, John Bell and his wife Mary Anderson to Scroggs Farm and area..  I believe he was a tenant farm worker or laborer.
His son,also John Bell, was born in 1767 in Howgil. Other names he is associated with are Nethercleuch(Nethercleugh) burn/station, Tundergarth Parish, Annon. He later married Ann Irving of Millhouse. They later with three children emigrated to Nova Scotia in 1806.
I am hoping to contact Julieann1 who posted on 10/18/08 that a David Stewart Bell passed away in Scrogs in 1949.  Possibly there is some family still there?
Any assistance would be appreciated.

I don't know if there are any Bells about that area now. It's a pretty common surname so probably.

My earliest Bell was George Bell  who was born about 1766 in Dumfriesshire. He married Janet Irving and they lived in Ettrickholm, St Mungo. Possibly George was bapt in Canonbie 1766 son of David Bell and Isabell Armstrong of Drybrow.
