Just a thought, a few papers that come to mind that would possibly cover Swaffham would be,  The Lynn Advertiser, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire Herald, EDP, or perhaps the Kings Lynn Mart.
you could search here, http://www.origins.org.uk/genuki/NFK/norfolk/newspapers/#norfolk

Swaffham Museum has a very large book with news paper cuttings in, not sure of dates, i remember viewing it some time ago.
Might be worth making contact to see if some one could make a search for you..

Hope this helps.

Hi Subaru,

Stephen Fry played a solicitor in a place called Market Shipborough (which was Swaffham)!  ;D

I had a relative imprisoned in Swaffham Jail in 1831 for being a Swing Rioter!

I hope you track down your newspaper cutting about your relative!

Cheers, PP

Blue Spirit, thank you for the websites - I had a look, but they don't have that date.  I've e-mailed Swaffham Museum, so fingers crossed something might come from that. ;D

PP, I thought it rang a bell, I did use to watch it, but didn't realise that it was Swaffham :o  I googled it, and if I read it correctly, there's another series to come.

Hi Subaru,

The town scenes (including his office) were filmed at Swaffham.  However anytime you see  beach scenes, those were filmed at Wells Next the Sea and Holkham which are about 20/30 miles from Swaffham.

We saw them filming at Swaffham this year in August!   :)

Cheers, PP
