The tricky thing is that Charles ROSSITER married Ellen Theresa O'SHEA and his brother Thomas James ROSSITER married her sister, Mary Anne Josephine O'SHEA!

So there are quite a few people with both these names in their ancestry.

Would you be able to look at birth records instead of death records? For instance, her tombstone suggests that Mary Ann Mercy Zillah ROSSITER was born in 1860; are there other ROSSITERs born around that same time in Victoria, with parents Thomas and Mary Ann?

Wow, you really have cast a wide net!

Yes, I found these people yesterday, which encouraged me to find out more about their children.

The only other child I have so far is a Thomas, born at Cranbourne, Victoria in 1860 (Ref No: 6233) but I wonder if they had other children following their marriage in 1854?

Earlier today I posted something about Mary Ann Mercy Zillah ROSSITER, daughter of this couple, who died in 1919 aged 58.

Her parents were shown as Thomas and Mary Anne ROSSITER and her headstone gives her date of birth as 6th (or maybe 8th) August 1860.

Is there any kind of birth record with this torrent of (unusual) first names that might fit?

Sorry Phil...absolutely nothing. 

People did forget to register the childrens' births and I am not sure about Victoria but in NSW  the registrar was prohibited from accepting birth regs after a certain period. There were also fines imposed for late regs.  Bit hazy about this subject these days
