I've just spent a little time trying to search again for my missing Mary CRUMPTON. Today, I've done a much better search for others of a similar name in the right area and think I may be on to something.
In the BAFHS baptism index, I have the baptisms of 4 children of John and Mary Crumpton at St Phillips and St Jacobs on the same day, 22 Jan 1815. The children are Ann, Eleanor, Rebecca and William. I am searching for a Mary, b abt 1816-ish (age varies on later censuses). I feel she could fit with this family as they appear to be pipe and ropemakers (different censuses) - Mary continues in this trade after her marriage to Thomas Keepax of Worcester in 1835.
I looked for John and Mary Crumpton in the 1841 - they are in Whittington (?) Court, St Phillips, with children Sarah (22), Thomas (17) and a Mary Ann aged 2, not sure if this is a daughter or granddaughter. Next door is a William Crumpton aged 34, also a pipemaker - I think this could be the William bapt in 1815. The 'batch' of baptisms seems to indicate that a variety of ages for those concerned could be involved. I also think that Thomas, son of John and Mary could possibly have been baptised late, in 1833, but this is speculation, again only looking at the baptism index CD.
Does anyone have access to the CD for baptisms prior to 1813? I'm wondering if any more children of this couple appear there? Espcially Mary, maybe she was older than she let on in later life...
So far, there is no other evidence to connect her to this family other than the place, occupations, naming patterns - - it all looks hopeful but there's no proof yet!
Oh, a possible marriage appears on the IGI fo John and Mary at St Stephen's Bristol. If this is so they married in 1803, and Mary's maiden name was FOOTMAN. I have the later marriage CD, there are no suitable couples on there between 1813 and 1837.
Would really appreciate any help with this family - they've been bugging me for years!!
