Wanted to log in and say a big thank you to ECNAPS, WOZZLE & CAROL. I sat here last night not knowing where to begin and now have enough stuff to keep my free time busy for quite a while.

I thought that finding family was going to be easy but after heaven know many hours last night finding nothing you and this site are an oasis..

Hi all. Yet another Newbie joining the ranks of the inquisitive. Whoever thought up the TV programme 'Who do you think you are?' has got a lot to answer for!

Where to start?  Seems nobody has told you the best place, but your head must be spinning with all the data you have!

I suggest you take it easy and have a look at  http://www.genuki.org.uk/org/ where yo will find lots of help, guidance and links.  The site can tell you more than any one person could.

If you are planning to have a family tree programme, a good one to start with is called PAF5 and is available free from the LDS via their site at http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/default.asp  It does not have all the facilities found on a commercially available prog. but so what!?.

Is it just me?

Methinks this is getting addictive.. I'm now gettng 'funny looks' from the 'sig other' in my life because I'm talking dates and census results and birth certificates. So many relatives are springing to life and events that only lived in history books are starting to spring into life..

I'm thankful that I have read your boards and got hints and ideas.. and you are right.. It can be harder than it looks on TV. Maybe someone needs to do a TV programme for "Behind the scenes" of 'that' programme.. Trouble is I don't think they can even start to show what you have to do to get anywhere..

So.. thanks again to everyone for starting me off... Do you have a complaints forum for when the sig other wants to vent? lol.. Keep well and be lucky.
