Leaman - Possibly Torquay

Hi all. Yet another Newbie joining the ranks of the inquisitive. Whoever thought up the TV programme 'Who do you think you are?' has got a lot to answer for!

Where to start? Ok.. stuff I think I know..

My Grandfather was Ivor Clifford Leaman and he was one of three or more children including Grace Leaman & Vera Leaman... I believe that they lived in Bristol during the 40's. However I believe that my G/G/great grandfather was called Ernest Leaman ErrorSPAM REPORT THIS POST AS SPAM (Use 'Report to Moderator'). DO NOT CLICK ON ANY LINKS IN THIS POST. DO NOT REPLY TO THIS PERSON.][/color]and he was married to L. Bennet and they possibly lived in Torquay. I have seen pictures of Ernest with his Standard Poodle in Torquay, and my grandfather before he died mentioned that his father lived near Torquay or in the surrounding area. (I didnt pay attention then.. ah the folly of youth!)  I also have several photos of him on the seafront in his Sunday best.. 

From here on in its a bit hazy but I think that my G/G/F was one of three children including Fred Leaman & Albert Leaman .

So you say.. lots of names.. However.. I don't have any dates, just a very faded piece of wallpaper with these names written on. So please please help me.. where do I go from here?

Where do I start? Help would be really appreciated...heck a mere hint would be really appreciated! 

Thought you might  like to see a pictre of Great Great Grandfather Ernest on His Hawker Motorcycle. The picture was taken in Eastville in Bristol circa 1926. He had just won a time trail race. The small lad next to him is I think my Grandfather.. This picture is the reason I have started wondering about my relatives.

Where to start?  Always start with what you know for certain and try to find any certificates that will help you get further back, look (or ask us for lookups) in birth marriage & death and census records - you can find lots of good advice in topics in this beginners section on how to go about this.

To get you started, there's a death registration for Ivor Clifford Leaman, June 1999 reg no.B12 entry no.132 district S.Glos - aged 89 date of birth 2 Jun 1910

I am.. well.. In awe.. Yes, both make sense.. I recall my grandfather saying that the family worked for Wills Tobacco in Bristol but he didn't say who..

Wow. It looks like I'm in the right place to get the ball rolling.. Do you know *looks embarassed* how long it's taken me to find anything at all?

there is a vera leaman born in devon in 1904 so maybe ernest-lily moved down to devon soon after the marriage and moved back to bristol after a couple of years.
