Seeking info on 3 Sqdn. M.E. RAAF.
« on: Saturday 13 October 07 08:14 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone
I am not sure whether anyone can help me but I am trying to find out any information about my Dad's cousin. He belonged to 3 Sqdn and his name was Ian Alexander McAdam. He was shot down in Oct 1943 over Italy during a flying battle. We know little else. On his record it has him belonging to 4 Aircraft Delivery Unit RAF but on another record it has him belonging to 3 Sqdn. Any info about these units or clarification would be greatly appreciated. This is my first time posting a topic so if there is anything I can do to make things easier please let me know.
Kind regards
Miss Lilly

Ian McAdam is listed as a 3 Squadron casualty on this privately researched roll of honour:

Dear ShaunJ

Thank you so much for the great websites you found. I have never seen a photo of my 2nd cousin and when I was looking through the detailed history of the squadron and saw all those photos I couldn't help but wonder whether I may have been looking at him. I guess I'll never know. It was wonderful however to read about the squadron and to see his name and where he is buried. I don't think my Father even knew where his cousin was buried. Thank you very much
Kind regards
Miss Lilly

Hi,

If he was RAAF, you can request that his service record be digitised by the National Archives of Australia. Unfortunately there is now a cost for that, previously it was free. You may of course find that the record has already been digitised.

Regards,

Ann
