Jonathan COULSON &FAMILY, 1841 census Please
« on: Saturday 13 October 07 06:43 BST (UK) »

Hi All
On his death certificate in Australia, Jonathan COULSON'S father is stated as James [Mother not known] and his birth place as Stamford Lincoln.

I cannot locate an IGI entry for a  family with James as father in Stamford , but I can see one there with the father being THOMAS,wife ELIZABETH.

Among the other children of THOMAS AND ELIZABETH they do have a JONATHAN at  the right approx.  birth year for  the one I am seeking.

Other children in  this IGI THOMAS COULSON'S family  are ...
Absolom 1817, Thomas 1818, William 1821,  Maria 1824, [Jonathan 1827] Henry 1829, James 1832, Edward 1835.

I wonder whether the informant on my JONATHAN'S certificate [who was not his wife, by the way] got it wrong and the THOMAS COULSON'S are  JONATHAN'S people.

I have been given his 1851 census and
By the 1851 census JONATHAN is living as a lodger in Middlesex Age 23. He is a stonemason., born Stamford.

Hoping a 1841 might show something.

Thank you, Sue

HO107/525/6/5/2
North St, Stamford All Saints
Thomas COULSON 40 Stone Mason
Elizabeth 45
Jonathan 14
James 10
Edward 6
Thomas's birthplace is under a blot, but the rest were born in Lincs.

There were dozens of COULSONs in Stamford but no other Jonathan, no James.
Don't cry because its over. Smile because it happened.

Hi There Geoff,
I am excited by this  find.

With the tendancy for occupations to run in families in those days and with Jonathan being a mason himself, I feel is tis could be the right family.  Jonathan's name was always spelt with the A at the end , never O

The informant at Jonathan's death in far away Australia has possibly confused the brother's name..James.. with the father.

The building skills continued right down the line in Australia and there were many architects and masons in the family.

Thank you for your time.
Sue

Dear Sparrett

Through an internet search I found your posting about Jonathan Coulson. Jonathan is my great grandfather. I would be very intrested if you have more infomation going back in the family tree. I know a little about his mother and father but not much more. I have all my branch of the family to when he came to Australia.
I would be pleased if you could contact me as I would be most intrested to learn more!

Tony Coulson

Hi Sparrett and Tony23

I have been researching Jonathan Coulson and have just found your post. I have also connected Thomas to Jonathan and have found his marriage details.  I would be happy if you contacted me to compare information.  Looking forward to hearing from you.

Peter
