plimmer-which ship and when
« on: Wednesday 22 December 04 23:31 GMT (UK) »
can anyone help I'm trying to find when john Plimmer b1829-30 Eng left and on what ship to USA or Canada
he does not appear on British 1851 census and has a son born 1850 Eng. I'm no sherlock Holmes but can work out that he must have left England 1850 or early 1851.
him and his family settled in la Salle Illinois.
any info on a date or ship would be great.

                       happy holidays ;D

I checked the 1900 census for Lasalle , IL and it says he immigrated in 1863 and was naturalized.  Also, that he was born on March 1830 in England.  The census was usually pretty accurate in terms of immigration recorded.  I have found several dates that way.  However, sometimes the person immigrating does not always remember the date correctly after so many years so it may be off by a year or two.

On 1870 census for La Salle, Illinois, there is a John Plimmer, age 40, with Wife Mary, 40 both born England.
Sons:
Richard (9 or 4... sorry hard to decipher) born England.
Benjamin, age 5 born PA
Samuel, age 2, born Illinois

If this is your family, it may help narrow down the arrival date and where.  Unable to assist with passenger lists.

Skelton, Heslington, Yorkshire

Delasalle, London area
Gravett/Grevet, Surrey
