staffordshire 1861 census look up
« on: Wednesday 10 October 07 17:06 BST (UK) »
Can anyone kindly look up a George Downing born abt 1858 in wolstanton. He is not with his parents so is likely to be with either other family members or friends. I assume he is still in the wolstanton area.

Any help is greatly appreciated
Many Thanks
Sara

Hi Pels

Thank you so much I really appreciate it - now just wondering why George never lived at home with his parents.

Many Thanks
Sara

It seems strange that John and Hannah Downing had no children of their own living with them, especially with them being of such a young age Sara?

Could it have been that George's parents had quite a large family and financially it was better all round for George to live with John?

It makes you wonder whether young George ever realised who his natural parents were .. .. how sad!

Do you know if John was his uncle?  :-\

Yes John was his uncle but as you say whether he realised they were not his real parents we will never know.
