1861/1871 Lookup - Liverpool - Jones - Completed
« on: Tuesday 09 October 07 20:20 BST (UK) »
Census Lookup 1861/1871

Help appreciated please!

In 1881, John G. Jones head, 70, born Liverpool,
Secretary Lpool College (Clerk)

Wife -  Anne C. Jones  62,  born Lpool

John and Anne were living at 10 Rupert Lane, Everton, Lancashire

I just found two very small envelopes, one with Stamp date 1840!
Address on envelope was Lyceum, Liverpool

The second envelope stamp date was 1850 with address
10 Rupert Lane, Everton, Liverpool, same as above, in 1881 Census.

So I thought a search in previous censuses may reveal
more information on this Jones family.

I do know of a William Jones b: 1801 in Shropshire who married an
Elizabeth Edmonds in Kerry, Montgomery. Elizabeth was
christened April 1, 1811, Kerry Montgomery.

So not sure how the JG Jones family in Liverpool are related to the
Montgomery Jones.

Regards
English Daisy

Hi Daisy, i know this is not a look up[ i don't have that facility]
but the lyceum is probably the theatre that stood in the area. It became a cinema, but is now pulled down. Rupert Lane was part of a junction  called ''Four Lane Ends'' and is not far from Prince Rupert Hill in Everton. It overlooks Liverpool and was used by Prince Rupert as his Head Quarters from which he fired artillery on the 'Parliamentaty' supporters, and although he ultimately lost the battle, his name is still remembered in 'Street Names' locally. Rupert Lane and the Lyceum were quite close to one another, so possibly he was at work in the Lyceum when the census was taken.

There are a few possibilities on familysearch for the Birth/Christening of a 'Jane CAIN, C1773-4, I.O.M.):

1. Christened: 17th October 1773,Ramsey, Isle Of Man

Parents: Patrick CAIN & Margaret COWLE

2. Christened: 26th June 1774, Ramsey, Isle Of Man

Parents: Edward CAIN & Catherine CANNELL

3. Christened: 21st October 1774, Saint Marks, Isle Of Man

Parents: Wm CAIN & Marg CALLOW

The last one (3.) possibly died quite soon after birth, as I also found the following:

Jane CAIN, Christened: 21st December 1775, Saint Marks, Isle Of Man, Parents: Wm CAIN & Margaret CALLOW
Hertzberger, Highton, Walker, Eaton, Webster, Brown, Wright, Speed, Dodd, Holland, Melling, Murphy, Edwards, Bennett, Collins, Critchley, Duffy, Owens, Morgan & Humphreys
