Hi topman,

Ralph Bramwell is my 3x great grandfather, his son Robert is my 2x great grandfather and roberts son Ernest who hol mentioned is my great grandfather.

Ralph was actually married three times his first wife was Martha Oldfield they married in Tideswell, Derbyshire 11/4/1833 she died in 1842 and Martha was the mother of William, James, George, Robert, Margaret and Samuel. James was born in 1835 and died 1836, George was born 1836 and died 1836.

Ralphs second wife was Rachael Balshaw they married in 1848 in Bolton, Rachael died in 1852, then Ralph married Mary O'Connor in 1855 in Bolton, Mary had Martha in 1855 and then James in 1857.

I have quite abit of information about the family if you want to get in touch.

Regards
Lyne

Hi I dont know if you will see this because the post i read was from dec,but i am trying to find out more about the Bramwells because I am related to martha bramwell. She is my great grandmother ,her son Anthony Bramwell Jordan is my grandfather and his son Anthony Matin Jordan was my dad.
Do you know anything about the origin of the name Bramwell?until I found out about Martha I had only known it as a cristian name .

Hi Mandalan. Martha was also my Great Grandmother. Her son James Arthur Jordan was my grandfather. My father was James Terrence Jordan. I have a photo of the whole family in the 1890's. If you you want a copy let me know.

Hi Mandalan and Billjo1,

Sorry my head isnt on straight this morning due to late shift at work last night. So please scratch what I said to you in my PM Bill as I didnt read this post before I PM'd you, I can see that you and Mandalan descend through Ralphs marriage to Mary O'Connor, I descend through Ralphs first marriage to Martha Oldfield.

The Bramwell surname originates from Tideswell, Derbyshire, it seems to be the epicentre for the surname.

I have Martha in my family tree and her husband Anthony Jordan, but I dont have any children for them as of yet so we can help each other out. I have Martha's brother James, his wife and their eight children in my tree. Infact if I,m honest the Bramwell side is quite large.

Ralph Bramwell and his sister Mary born 1814 are both illegitamate, this has been confirmed on the Parish Records for Tideswell, their mother was called Margaret (sorry I dont have a surname for her) so this is as far back as I have got on the Bramwell side of the tree.

Will close for now as I,m off to work shortly.
Regards
