Bramwells Bolton
« on: Tuesday 09 October 07 16:18 BST (UK) »

Hi All,
Looking for information on the Bramwell family of Bolton.

My grandfather Melbourne Stanley Bramwell was born in 1905 in Bolton, sorry I dont have much to go on at all.
My father remembers visiting his grandmother Bramwell in Back Haydock Street Bolton when he was younger.

Not 100% sure but great grandmothers maiden name may have been Crook.

Regards

Hi,
FreeBMD has birth of Melbourne BRAMWELL, Bolton 8c 526, Jan-Feb-Mar 1905
If you obtain the birth certificate this will give you his mother's maiden name.
FreeBMD does not list any BRAMWELL/COOK marriages 1885-1910

Hi,

Did your grandfather have any brothers or sisters?  There is the birth registration of an Emily M Bramwell in Bolton Dec.Qtr 1911 Volume 8c page 850 with mothers maiden name recorded as Crook.

This birth sort of ties in with the POSSIBLE marriage of an Emily Mabel Crook and a Thomas Bramwell who appear on the same page of marriages in Sept Qtr.1905 in Bolton Volume 8c page 547.  Unfortunately it is not possible to say if they actually married each other. This is I know later than Melbourne`s birth so I wonder if Thomas`s first wife died and then he married Emily?

Regards,
Mo

Hi topman,

Ralph Bramwell is my 3x great grandfather, his son Robert is my 2x great grandfather and roberts son Ernest who hol mentioned is my great grandfather.

Ralph was actually married three times his first wife was Martha Oldfield they married in Tideswell, Derbyshire 11/4/1833 she died in 1842 and Martha was the mother of William, James, George, Robert, Margaret and Samuel. James was born in 1835 and died 1836, George was born 1836 and died 1836.

Ralphs second wife was Rachael Balshaw they married in 1848 in Bolton, Rachael died in 1852, then Ralph married Mary O'Connor in 1855 in Bolton, Mary had Martha in 1855 and then James in 1857.

I have quite abit of information about the family if you want to get in touch.
