marraige Hibbard or Guest to Popplewell

Elizabeth and James Popplewell appear on 1871 census in Leeds along with son. Can anybody find marriage, she was married before to Peveril Guest in 1856

Can you give the census reference?    Is Peveril dead by this time?   I think you mention in another post that he remarried in Australia.  Does this mean bigamy or divorce?   The latter is most unlikely in those days.    As much info as possible makes the search much easier.

1871 census 4554/73a/24

Peveril was a mariner and turned up in Australia 1863 or so and had 2 other wifes.

Because he was a mariner it may have been assumed he died after a period of time ?

I have now found James and Elizabeth "Papplewell" in 1871.  However, Elizabeth's age is given as 29.  That would make her very young when she married in 1856.   Their son is only 2 months old in 1871 so born at the beginning of the year.  Have you found her in later census to check her age??

She was born 24/4/1838 baptised at Bradford Parish church
married 1856
1871 census info you have

1881 census 3967/4/1 Salford.

Can you confirm her age and father's name from her marriage certificate to Peveril?   I am just a bit concerned that you seem to be relying on facts given to you by someone eslse which may not be correct.  Have you checked all the original sources?  In 1881 she still says she is 40 and even allowing for the fact that she may be knocking a few years off as she is older than James it would be better to have a few more facts to check.    When does she die?

If you look under Durham you will get marriage details as they were given via Roots yesterday.

The notes are from my mother who has been doing family tree for years and for other people. She usually relies on original data etc , not info from computer, and as so believe info to be correct.

Sorry cant give you any more as I am just leaving for Germany
will catch up at weekend
