Beaconsfield marriage 1761
« on: Sunday 07 October 07 01:48 BST (UK) »
Hello

Can anyone help with any info re a Francis Woolhouse who married Elizabeth Turner in Beaconsfield 24 August 1761 ?   :)

I am trying to locate a christening or birth record for either of these two , I'm guessing they would have been born 1730's-40's.

I'm not sure if any of this will help, as I only have Beaconsfield marriages, but here goes!

The 1761 marriage of Francis & Elizabeth doesn't give any extra info, other than they married by licence. I don't know if it would be worth trying to obtain a copy.

A quick look on Family History Online adds that Francis was a bachelor 'of this parish' and Elizabeth a spinster 'of this parish' and that the witnesses were John Turner and John Grove.

Interestingly, there is a marriage for a John Turner in Beaconsfield -

19 Oct 1739 John Turner of Burnham & Elizabeth Hutchins.

Could these be Elizabeth's parents?

Another marriage in Beaconsfield -

12 Jan 1734 Edw. Woolhouse & Mary Harris

Possibly Francis' parents?

It's frustrating without the Beaconsfield/Burnham baptisms to follow this up, so hopefully someone else will be able to help with the baptisms.   :-\

Were any of Francis & Elizabeth's children named after these possible parents?

Jill

Baptism nowhere to be found. Possibly in a nonconformist church near ALMONDBURY or HUDDERSFIELD.

Hello Jill

many thanks for taking the time to look for me,   chn. to this marriage are Francis 1776
Richard 1783
Thomas 1772
Edward 1764
Anne  1770
Elizabeth 1768
Rebecca 1774

All born in Beaconsfield.

The marriage you found for Edward and Mary in 1735 certainly looks like a possible, it is also the same parish,( or church ? ) Beaconsfield St Mary with All Saints,  that Francis ( junior ) was born in 1776.

Thanks

On the 10th March 1768 Francis Woolhouse was a witness at the marriage of Mary Turner and William Hunt, 'chandler of this parish'.
There were no Woolhouse baptisms at all in Beaconsfield prior to 1764.
There are also no appropriate Turner baptisms, one in 1718 (Courtney Turner)died within weeks and the children baptised in 1737 and 1738 were both called Joseph as the eldest was another infant death.
There appears to be a definite link to the neighbouring parish of Burnham as a John Turner of Burnham married Elizabeth Hutchins of Beaconsfield at Beaconsfield in 1738, but had no children baptised there.
Then in 1763 a William Turner of Burnham married Elizabeth Goodgame of Beaconfield at Beaconsfield.
Worth a look.

Karen
