Rankines of Polmont 1770 onwards
« on: Saturday 06 October 07 19:41 BST (UK) »
hi
I'm new to rootschat. I'm looking for any information relating to the rankine family from the Polmont/falkirk area. The oldest I have so far is James Rankine born 1870 who was married to Mary Main and had children Mary, James,Jean, Robert and Jean. My line is from  Mary rankine who married Robert bauchop in August 1822 in falkirk. If anyone can help I'd be reallly grateful

Welcome Mrs a,
It will be difficult to get beyond 1770, have you tried Scotlandspeople, its pay to view but well worth it.

Hi Mrs A

And Welcome.

James Rankine was baptised 22 July 1770 in Polmont. his parents are shown as George Rankine and Jean Rae.

I searched between 1750 and 1780 for children of this pair in Polmont.

They had:

1765 - George
1770 - James
1773 - Agnes
1775 - Jean
1778 - Margaret

I'll see if I can find a marriage for them.

There is a possible bpt. on the IGI controlled extractions of George Rankine, Falkirk, 17 May 1741. Falkirk which is the next parish to Polmont.

Parents - John Rankine and Agnes Scott

Hi Mrs A
I too come from Rankin/Main but through their son James.  Your query has answered some questions for me too and another friend in Brisbane.
Many thanks!

Is your friend in Brisbane Ronald? How far back are you with the rankines? My connection is through James rankine(1770) and Mary Main's daughter , also Mary who married Robert bauchope in Falkirk in 1822

Hi
I am relatively new to Roots chat too.

My family is also decended from Robert Bauchop and Mary Rankine, in particular Isabella who married James Hutton. The Bauchops are my mystery as there appear to be children born of a James and Elizabeth as well as James and Isabella but I cant find and record of a marriage for Elizabeth.

I previously saw a message asking for information about an Ann Bauchop and there was a query as to whether her name was a nickname for Jannet. I have found an Ann but her mother is the above mentioned Elizabeth.
