Thanks for prompt reply. I'm not sure about this family and can't find a link with the other members that are in the 1861 census, however I will pursue it further, it may turn something up.

Sorry, I had another look but they are most elusive. I looked at 1861 Census but that gave no clear clues. Could not find the marriage of William Thorne with Elizabeth Webber.

Hopefully another pair of eyes might spot something. Place of birth of William given as Langford on 1861.

Hi! again, you're absolutely right, they are elusive, I've been trying to track them down for months, inspite of Langford in the 1861 census, I believe that Elizabeth hails from Wellington, SOM. These villages are all very close together and it's possible the enumerator just dittoed them all. How's the weather in France, I live near Zurich and it has been pouring this morning but alot better now. Thank you for all your effort, they've got to be somewhere cos I'm here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! j

We could do with some of that rain here in the South. My garden needs it desperately. By the way I was born in Somerset. I hope that somebody can track them down as I spent some time without any luck.

Hi, just checking to see if any of your Thornes are connected to Louisa Thorne (also nee Thorne!) born before 1855, and her husband John Rowe Thorne. As far as location goes, it was Dunster/Stogumber/Williton. Bessie Thorne, their daughter b 1870 was postmistress at Stogumber.

Thanks for any help!
THORNE in Stogumber/Williton, Somerset. VOWLES in Bristol. JOHN from Llancefyn, Pembs Wales, also Glamorgan. WILLMOTT (various spellings) from Bristol or Caerleon. CARTER from Clutton, Somerset. RESTON from Lancashire, Birkenhead. MORGAN from Islington, DAVIES from Pontypridd.

Hi Lavinia, I wish I could be of help to you. The only info I have about William Thorne b.c. 1820 is that he was from Langford SOM. (1861 census) he was married to Elizabeth Webber from Wellington,SOM b.c.1822, where they were married I have no idea or when, I don't know whether he had any siblings, he's a real mystery. They had several children, one of which was a paternal g. great grandmother b. c. 1858. rgds:Bircham
