Thanks for replying. If you search for Gordon Highlanders we have 2 headings 1. Do you know these soldiers? and 2. Chiseldon Army Camp. We do not know what part of Scotland he came from but we are awaiting his RASC / fusiliers service record from Glasgow which hopefully may have his G. Highlander records which may show us his parents and location in Scotland. He was apparently a renouned Baker/Confectioner and we think he may have headed an exhibition in London.

When was your James Brown born?  Were his father and grandfather confectioners as well?  Was there a bakery known as the Queen's bakery in Aberdeenshire?  I am related to someone who apprenticed in 1800's to a James Brown (at least that is the way I remember the information I have).  I would appreciate any information that you can share.  Thanks.

Sorry not your James Brown, we have found ours he was born in Lymington, Hampshire, to scottish teachers who came down south, on the 1891 census he was apprentice to James F Mellor a baker & confectioner in Lancashire, who also was scottish. Good luck with your search.

A James Brown and Robert Gardiner apprenticed together in Aberdeen in the 1860's in what is referred to as the "Queen's Bakery."  James and Robert both joined the Mormon church and came to Utah separately and both began bakery and confectionery business.  I have a picture of James Brown in front of his bakery in Salt Lake City and a number of newspaper articles related to him. I have newspaper ads for Robert Gardiner's business. I am very interested getting any and all information on the "Queen's Bakery."  Was it a specific bakery in Aberdeen? Are there any pictures of the "Queen's Bakery."  Were the baked goods sent to Queen Victoria at Balmoral Castle or what the Queen's Bakery more of an honorary title given to an fine business?

I have browns in my family tree and whilst researching them, I came across a James Brown Confectioner for Portobello.  Because I do not think he is part of my family I did not make any notes on him.
Would suggest IGI family search to see what comes up.
