I am also considering not to renew although have had a sub for quite a few years, just find the site a pain.

Only log in if I have a message via email, don't find anything very interesting there anymore and have not done for ages.  Hot/Not matches irritates me, been meaning to opt out.

Moan over...long live RC

Sorry you don't like the site, Cas, I have found it very useful.  Found lots of 'connections' and expanded my tree, especially family members post-1901 census.  Yes, the site does have some irritating bits and the 'hot matches' can be exasperating.  You would think by now they could take into account the place of birth when advising hot matches.  For the sake of £10, I think it is good value, but each to his own!

Agreed Zephyr, initially within the first few years I gained much from genes via contact and connections with others.  Now I find even though the sub is reasonable, what is the point of continuing to pay if it is not used.

I have seen many changes there and not to my taste at present, as you say each to their own.

I find the Hot Matches irritating now, because they don't search on place, so I can get so called matches of people born in Australia, etc. when my ancestors are all from the UK.  The other thing is the computer seems to pick on a couple of names at random from my tree and match them with the same name in dozens of other trees.

Like others, originally, I used to get lots of true matches, but not recently.  Having said that, this year someone did contact me about my g.gran's family and we shared different bits of info we had, so that was good.  And today, I had an e-mail from someone in Canada asking if some of my ancestors were related to some of hers with the same surname - unfortunately they weren't.

Liz

I emailed GR about the problem of not being able to view other peoples Tree's...this is the reply.

Thanks for your email.

If the other member has loaded a large tree to the site, this does mean that it may not display correctly, if at all. You should be able to see it in the Immediate Family view, when you first open it, but it probably won't display in the full tree view.
Our development team are working on making this possible and I am sorry for the inconvenience.
Best regards,

Julie
The Genes Support Team..

This has been going of for months, originally I thought it was something to do with my Viewer. Surely they should have made us aware that if people loaded a large Tree,  Contacts wouldn't be able to view it.

I only have a small Tree, and therefore every contact gets full details from mine, whilst I can't even see theirs to make any further progress or confirm the main connection

I have found some GR people very helpfull, but how many of us would want to type out all the dates and names.

Funnily enough, I (laughingly) was checking my Hot Matches yesterday and noticed that I can now scroll down and view the info.

Typical! Just as I'd decided I wouldn't renew my sub (due in about a week) if they didn't put this right, now I'll have to decide if I can be bothered or not!  ::)

Hot matches have proved great for me ..... BUT  how about DELETE DELETE as a hot match!  I notice on quite a few trees I have access to there are boxes with delete delete because the owner has made an error, myself included, and you can't delete a person who is connected to others.
