How to find a grave of ancestor

Hello again,
I am so thankful for all of the information I got yesterday.  I am wondering how I go about finding cemeteries/graves/headstones etc for relatives who have been buried in Paisley?

Hi Moryan

I have the pre 1855 Monunmental Inscription books for Renfrewshire but these would only give information if there is a headstone. But I am more than happy to have a look for you if you give me the details.

Paisley has several cemetaries tho the main two are in the link already posted but before Woodside and Hawkhead there were a number of others. Woodside is managed by the Paisley Cemetary Co ltd. Tel 0141 889 6620 and they have records going back to 1845 for Burials and from 1938 for cremations. The service isn't free but it doesn't say how much they charge. Hawkhead openend in April 1891

The burial ground records are held by the Council but beware they do charge £26 per half hour for a search.

I am looking for the grave of my grandmother who passed away in 1940. Do you think you could help with it???

Hi Lesley

Fraid not . The records I have with gravestones are pre 1855. But if she died in Paisley in 1940 there are only three places she could be buried. Arkleston, Hawkhead or Woodside.

Do you know for sure if she was buried ? If cremated then only place would be Woodside as that is only crematorium in Paisley.

Hope that narrows it down a wee bit for you.

I would think she would be buried but it only be a presumption.  Thank you for your info.

Had a thought. It might be worth contacting funeral directors in Paisley. The main one is the Co-operative Society. They may have records available.

Hello,
Was just wondering Ann if you could possibly find a burial or headstone in your burial book for any BRANNAN family members.  The one I am interested in is John and his wife is Ann (nee JAMISON and also a nee MCNAMARA.  Think there were 2 ladies involved with John, think maybe one d.  I'm sorry I do not have dates other than both parents had d. by 1864, oh! yours are pre 1855 anyway please have a peep just to see if anyone jumps out at you.
Actually my rellie has just posted me some info. and he said he found a christening for John on 27th Mar. 1803 at Greenoch Renfrewshire - f. John BRANNAN and m. Margaret MCDONALD. Sorry no confirmation of this info.
