Hi jan

I've also looked in the allfootballers site that I mentioned here:

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,258913.msg1451330.html#msg1451330

Nothing there either  :(

Do you know where he lived before WW2 - was it South Shields?

Thanks again for looking!

Yes - born and brought up a Geordie! He also was a good singer and regularly sang at a local pub - but no one seems tohave heard of him in that capacity either. He was the youngest son of Nicholas and Ruth who split before he was born. He lived with his mother and brothers on Alfred St.

Thanks again.

I'm wondering if it would be worth contacting the local libraries/archives to see if there is anything on him. Some have wonderful indexing systems and might find something on him for you  :)

Now that's an idea...! I'd never have thought of that!

Another job to add to the list!

Hi Milly

I have my Dad  8) Then there's Billy Meredith  8) And then Grt Uncle Jack Mates was capped for Wales 3 time I think - 1890s. Then there's cousin Ehud Rogers - Arsenal  :( :( :(  And lots of others. AND

My Gran was the first football hoolie. She ran on the pitch and bashed the ref because she didn't agree with his decision  ;D

Gadget - who takes after her Gran  8)

Hi Gadget..

I went  to a car boot sale last week and picked up a few books on the history of football.   One of them  has a whole page on Billy Meredith.  A PHOTOGRAPHIC HISTORY OF ENGLISH FOOTBALL  by Tim Hill. Photos courtesy Daily Mail.  I imagine you already have it but let me know if not.

I have not ploughed through all of them yet so don't know who else is there but will keep a look out for all the names mentioned in this thread ;D

That's good. Thought you probably would have but thought I'd check.
