McMullan/Killen Marrige- Ballygalgett
« on: Saturday 29 September 07 10:51 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum and am looking for information about my Irish relatives. The couple in the subject are my GG GPs. DOM 13/9/1861 in Ballygalget RC Church Co. Down. I know they had a son, John DOM 9/11/1888, who married a Catherine McGinn. Families eventually moved to Glasgow areas. Anyone with family connections out there, I would be delighted to hear from.
Thanks

Gerry

Welcome to Rootschat.
Since you know the church where the marriage took place- have you checked the church records for other family members?
It would help if you lisyed the names of the couple who married in 1861. If there son John was born 1888 there are likely quite a few children born between 1861-1888.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Gordon,

That is fantastic news for me. Thanks for posting.  Do you have Bridget and Hughs parents also?

Where do you live? I am living in Glasgow. I am currently on holiday in New Zealand visiting my brother so would be happy to catch up on my return. My grandmother was Susan McMullan who married James Welsh, but I can give more detail when I get home. Are you a member of Genes Reunited?

Thanks

Gerry

Hi Gerry,

According to my research Hugh's parents were John and Mary, I can't make out the maiden surname.
Bridget's parent's were John and Ann (nee Gallacher). I took the information from Hugh and Bridget's statuatory death records, obtained through Scotlands People. But I'm pretty poor at reading the script used.

I've attached some images that might be of some use to you.

I've been meaning to go to Portaferry to do some more research as my mothers family also hail from Co. Down, If I get around to it I'll copy you in on anything I do find.

I'm not a member, well not a paid up one, of Genes Reunited but I am of ancestry if that's any help.

I have your grandmother in my tree as Susan Frew McMullan, and I stumbled across the immigration records of what I think are two of her sisters Annie and Patricia, who went to the US in the 1920's to work in Lawrence Massachusetts.

I'm in London, but there are still a few of the family in and around Glasgow so I get up there every now and again.

If I make one more post here I think we can PM each other which might make communication a tad easier.

Thanks  Gordon,

I could not find Hugh and Bridgets death records but will look again. Looking forward to getting more dates etc from you when I get back from holiday on 17 Oct. Yes, you are right about Susan McMullan, 2 of her sisters were Annie and Patricia. Annie died in 1938 in childbirth. Patricia actually married my fathers uncle John Welsh in laurence massachusetts. An uncle and a nephew married two sisters. Rose, Catherine and John were the other siblings. I have a contact for John son, think he is in Peterborough, need to double check. looks like we may be able to share some good information.
