You could try asking the web master of the first one if there is a history of the Inn available or if there is a local history society that you could contact.
the license for your ancestor will be in the Berkshire Record Office
Have a look at www.sfowler.force9.co.uk for ideas of how to research for a pub and the workers connected to them sadly he mentions an idex of pubs 1801-1901 which looks a useful site but it has been closed down.
