Wiston & Roberton burials?

Hi,
Does anyone know of a link or address etc that I can contact for information regarding a burial. I have a death certificate from 1858 which clearly states a burial took place at Robert cemetery, however I have visited this cemetery and have viewed the names contained in the MI booklet and it doesn't appear.

I have a few relatives from up that way, whom I believe were buried in either of these churchyards, but am unable to see any headtones when I visited.

Any help would be appreciated, either by replying to this message or sending me a PM.

The main surnames that I have researching in this are are HAMILTON/GALL/FRIER from Wiston & Roberton, Avondale, Dolphinton & Symington.

If you didn't find a headstone and there is nothing in the MI book (I presume it is "The Upper Ward of Lanarkshire" book, if it is, then the transcriptions are mostly pre 1855) and you have looked around the cemetery yourself, then the only thing left is to contact Bill Stanley at South Lanarkshire Council Cemeteries Office in Blantyre.  (www.southlanarkshire.gov.uk ) I am 99% sure that there are no burial records for this time period at Wiston and Roberton but check with them anyway.
Even in the Old Parish Records the death and burial records for this parish are poor.

In book one of the microfilm - 660/1 - There is a list of deceased person of the parish from 1689 through to 1701, all on one page and almost impossible to read, with only the name of the deceased given.
Also in book one there are deaths from 1746, virtually impossible to read, many names but written in a tiny, cramped hand with little or no information, they finish at 1772 and as far as I know there are no other records.

Looks like a dead end I'm afraid

Dinarina, I don't quite understand what you are saying.
I am looking at the book "Monumental Inscriptions (Pre-1855) In The Upper Ward of Lanarkshire"
by Shiela A. Scott.

It shows that in the Roberton Cemetery there are 6 headstones containing Hamilton and 1 Gall.

In Wiston there are 4 Hamiltons.

Thanks for posting your reply. You are quite right. I have since purchased the said MI booklet but hadn't looked at it properly. Now I will be able to place some of my missing family.

It is strange however, that whilst on a visit to both of theses cemeteries I never came across a headstone. May have to pay another visit in the summer to look again.
