Burial of Sankey family would have been at Chasetown Cem' I reckon.  Cem' is opposite St Ann's Parish Church, Chase town.  My Chase Terrace ancestors buried Chasetown

Hi oldjim,
Many thanks for those websites. I am planning a trip to York at Easter next year so may have to take a detour and have a look in the cemetary. I know that most of my Sankeys died at Burntwood so hopefully that is where they are buried.
Again many thanks.
Regards
Anne.

Ann don't expect too much from your visit to the cem' at Chasetown.  I originate from Chase Terrace (know Sankeys Corner very well tho now live Yorkshire) and was at the cem' last year.  The bulk of the cem' was overgrown - grass about 2ft high.  Been a lot of complaints about it in the local press.

Hope you enjoy your visit to York, not a bad place and has some very good museums.  The National Railway Museum is large and well worth a visit.

Hi Jim,
Do you know where I would be able to get info for the number of the grave, if they have been kept.
From what I gather Sankeys corner was on one corner of Sankeys Farm, what thee farm was called originally is anyones guess. After looking at the ebsite it seems that it is all gone now. Although he was a tenant farmer there was another farm he lived at, just cant remember thename of it at the moment.
My trip to Yorkshire is going to be fun, as I am looking to get photos of places my rellies lived. Dad was adopted at birth and we have been really lucky to have come a long way forward as well as a long way back, lots of Scots and then my bioligical Grandmother was born in York. Most of the family stayed in York, and going to get photos of where they lived and where born. They seem to all have been in Walmsgate and Micklegate. Handy as some of them were watermen.

Regards
Anne.

Hi Anne.  Before I forget - you mentioned  Bridge Cross Farm.  I'm pretty sure it was by the side of Sankeys Corner (probably before the corner got it's name) as I seem to remember someone telling me the Bridge Cross Working Mans Club stands on wot was the farm site.  Was in the club a couple of years ago at a late cousin's Wake.

Altho' Sankeys Corner is at Chase Terrace the area is now more generally known as Burntwood.

Can't help on location of burial plots, not sure where the parish records would be kept.  Might be worth your while putting up a thread " Burial Records St Anns Parish Church Chasetown"

I've some pics of Sankeys Corner, Chasetown etc on a CD somewhere will try to find and put a thread up with them on.  SEE PAGE 2 FOR PICS

Sankeys Corner in the 1940s.  First time I've tried to place pic on here as only joined t'other day.  The last building on the left (standing diagonal to the road) was the local cinema.  Over to the right from the cinema, where the large tree is, would (if I'm correct) have been Bridge Cross Farm.  Will post another pic of same place but taken last year.  Tried to do two pics in one go but wouldn't work

This pic is Sankeys Corner 2006.  The red brick building is a block of flats and stand on the site of the former cinema.  Bridge Cross Working Mans Club is set back from the road (top right) so not in view.
