Sorry for the mistake !

I have found him in 1851 Census -

He is posted as Wilkin Crozier with his DOB at about 1826 (Skelton) and is resident in the parish of Lazonby working at a Agric Labourer (Servant).   If you look at the original you can see it reads William.

His marriage to Isabella quotes him as being Wilkin too !

Regards,

Julie.

Well found Julie! That all seems to fit in nicely. No wonder I was having such trouble finding him.  Next step will be getting that marriage certificate.

Have now received the marriage certificate -

They married 10th April 1858 in the parish of St John, Newcastle Upon Tyne and were of "full" age.

Watkin Crozier was a Mariner and his father was named as John Crozier whose occupation was "Husbandman".

Isabella Reed was a spinster and as expected her father John Reed was a Teacher.

They both signed the marriage registrar in the presence of her brother Thomas Reed and an unknown John Tindley.

Hi All,
Has anyone come across a Matthew Crozier or his daughrter Elizabeth born c1832; her first marriage was to Stoker and her second to David Bramley in 1863. I can't find traces of either Matthew or Elizabeth in the 1814 or 1815 census returns.
Any leads would be appreciated.

Reg.

Hi Reg,

I think I have found Elizabeth & Matthew in the 1851 census - she is under her first marriage Stoker -

They are living in Willington, Northumberland.  The household members are -

Matthew Crozier 61 - Head
Joseph Crozier 36 - Son
Jane Crozier 34 - daughter
Elizth Stoker 27 - daughter
Matthew Nixon 18 - grandson
Willm Stoker 3 - grandson
Alexander Arthur 40 - lodger
James Florence 42 - lodger

Have also found Elizabeth Christening on FamilySearch.org -

Christening date -17 JUL 1825   St Peter's, Wallsend, Northumberland, England
Father Matthew - Mother Elizabeth

Not yet found them in the 1841 census though.

Hope this is of some help.

Regards, Julie

Hi Reg,

I have managed to find them in the 1841 census.

They are still in Willington, Northumberland but it has been transcribed incorrectly as follows -

COUSIN, Matthew - 50
COUSIN, Elisabeth - 56
COUSIN, Joseph - 25
COUSIN, Elisbeth - 16
NIXON, Henry - 8

Thanks Julie. Perhaps they are cousins of the family they were staying with.
Do you think there is an Irish connection? I have noticed a lot of Croziers listed from there.

If you look at the actual 1841 census you will notice it is very faint and the person who transcribed it on the computer may have guessed on the surname - it does look vaguely like cousin but also crozier.

Unfortunately with my crozier, he died not long after he married into our family and we have not been successful in finding out much about him so can't tell you if there is an irish connection.
