Marriage lookup - Curran/O'Brien - please can you help
« on: Wednesday 26 September 07 10:43 BST (UK) »
I am trying to establish the location and precise date of the marriage of THOMAS CURRAN & NANCY O'BRIAN / O'BRIEN which I believe took place around 1870 (based on LDS records of the birth of two children, John and Ann in 1872/3 - but the location given is simply Londonderry).

Please can you help me - I would very much appreciate any assistance.

Mac

Don't see a marriage for them on Irish Genealogy site under Co. Derry. Perhaps they got married somewhere else and moved to County Londonderry by the time John was born in 1872 (the two birth records you mention say Co. Londonderry which takes in a large area).

Many thanks for such a quick response!  I presume that County Donegal is the most obvious alternative but so far I've had no luck with either county - I just hope that someone might recognised names from their family history.

Birth records on IGI are for COUNTY Londonderry not Londonderry the city. Could easily be Co. Antrim, Co. Tyrone, etc.
Perhaps someone else will be able to come up with place and date of marriage to narrow down your search.

P.S. also checked for marriage in Londonderry Sentinel index (1829-1869) but nothing listed.

Many thanks Mary.  Please can you let me know where / how you found the birth because, as well as the marriage, I am keen to track down John's siblings.

I have now confirmed that Thomas Curran & Nancy O'Brien were my great-grandparents and, thanks to Mary, know that their son John was born in 1872 at Maghera.  I am still struggling to find their marriage and would appreciate any advice / assistance you can offer.

Thanks and best wishes

Mac
