Please could someone tell me are there any means of looking up divorces form 1963-70?

 You could try the national archives, they have section on divorce which could help.

If you need legal proof of a divorce in any court, from 1858 to the present day, contact the Principal Registry of the Family Division, Decree Absolute Section, First Avenue House, 42-49 High Holborn, London WC1V 6NP (020 7947 7015). For a fee, they will access a union index to the registered court copies of decrees absolute for you, and either provide a certified copy of the information themselves (if the divorce was granted by the Supreme Court) or arrange for a certified copy to be sent to you from the relevant county court. If the divorce took place within the last 5 years, you can also contact the county court where it took place for a cheaper service. If you want information on the cause of the divorce, ask for the decree nisi as well.

You may not be able to get that information if the two parties are still alive.

Aren't these records sealed for the same number of years as other documents concerning living people.

My father’s first marriage was in 1963, his second was in 1973 - will i be able to apply for his first divorce records or will they be closed as he is still living.

Sadly my father now has dementia and didn’t like to talk about his past.

Records of divorces post 1937 are complete and available, to anyone, but you will only get a copy of the decree absolute ( for a fee)  using the .gov  link above.

Case papers post 1937 are not available.

Early 1960s a couple living next door to my parents divorced.  At that time the local evening newspapers reported on divorce nisi cases and again gave the names of the divorce absolute cases.   My mother had to explain to Gerda what was happening.   I don't know why Gerda needed a divorce as they still remained living together.
