Hi Sue
I already have the censuses relating to James and his family but thanks all the same for looking Sue
In the household headed by Emma Pam (should be Pain) there is a Harriet Barrs aged 33 who I'm almost certain was James Bayley's sister but I see this Harriet was born in Lancashire not Worcestershire as James's sister was:-\ In her will Ellen Barker Bayley mentions leaving - I think it was a painting - something relating to lieutenant Barker who she described as being "an ancestor" to her eldest son.
The only person I've never been able to trace on the 1841/1851 census was John Salmon Bayley. He was the father of James Bayley and committed suicide in London (Fleet Street) in 1859. He was born in Bere Ferrers, Devon in 1827 and was the younger brother of the Emma Pain you found in Hampshire.
Family certainly keeps us all busy

Thanks once again, Sue, for your help with this
